Basic density and pulp yield relationship with some chemical parameters in eucalyptus trees PAB

The objective of this work was to evaluate the use of basic density and pulp yield correlations with some chemical parameters, in order to differentiate an homogeneous eucalyptus tree population, in terms of its potential for pulp production or some other technological applications. Basic density and kraft pulp yield were determined for 120 Eucalyptus globulus trees, and the values were plotted as frequency distributions. Homogenized samples from the first and fourth density quartiles and first and fourth yield quartiles were submitted to total phenols, total sugars and methoxyl group analysis. Dinámica de brotación y densidad básica de la madera en rebrotes de tres especies dendroenergéticas Agrociencia

Resumen La dinámica de brotación y la densidad básica son importantes en el manejo de especies para producción de biomasa con fines energéticos. Nuestro objetivo fue estudiar la dinámica de brotación y la densidad básica en Eucalyptus globulus Labill, E. denticulata Cook & Ladiges y Acacia dealbata Link con tres densidades de plantación (5000, 10 000 y 15 000 árboles ha-1). El estudio se realizó en la región del Biobío, Chile, en tres fechas de evaluación (10, 21 y 31 meses después del corte; DC). Evaluation of essential oils in health and physiological quality of Schinus molle seeds and seedlings PFB - Pesquisa Florestal Brasileira

The objective was to evaluate the effect of Mentha piperita, Cymbopogon nardus and Eucalyptus globules essential oils, in sanitary and physiological quality of Schinus molle L. seeds and seedlings. The seeds were treated with essential oils at concentrations of 10%, on 1 μL g-1, 20%, on 2 μL g-1, 30% , on 3 μL g-1 and control. After treatments, seeds were evaluated by sanity test, using filter paper method (“blotter test”) and by germination test, where the seeds were placed between vermiculite substrate. For counts, sprouted and dead seeds were considered. Shoot length, root, total height and stem diameter were measured for seedlings evaluation. Influence of water regime on initial growth and essential oil of Eucalyptus globulus Ciência Rural

ABSTRACT: Understanding the water requirement of forest species in the seedling stage supports cost reduction by eliminating unnecessary irrigation in addition to providing higher productivity. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of the water regime on initial growth, leaf production and content and chemical composition of the essential oil of Eucalyptus globulus , during the first 120 days of cultivation. Influencia de seis especies arbóreas en la infiltración de agua en el suelo Agrociencia

Los modelos de infiltración de agua en el suelo que dependen de una medida o dato puntual, como los de Kostiakov, Philips, Horton, y Green y Ampt, no consideran la influencia de los árboles circundantes. La hipótesis planteada en este trabajo fue que ésta puede influir en los valores genéricos tomados en campo y, por tanto, deben corregirse. Los factores que pueden influir son: la especie arbórea, la distancia al tronco, la altura del árbol y su manejo (cultivado o no). El forraje de gramíneas es importante para la sostenibilidad a corto plazo de los sistemas agroforestales. Para conocer las relaciones de competencia se estudió la tasa de crecimiento (TC) y la acumulación de materia seca (AMS) del pasto estableciendo: 1) la disminución por efecto de la sombra y 2) la relación con variables ambientales, en una plantación de eucalipto (eucalyptus globulus Labill.) con 950 árboles ha-1 y asociado a un pastizal de Chloris gayana Kunth (pasto Rhodes), del 2007 al 2009. Eucalyptus globulus is the second most important forest species in Chile, after Pinus radiata. The main advantages of E. globulus are its fast growth (25 m³/ha/year) and its excellent wood quality for kraft pulp production. On the negative side, its low freezing tolerance has been an obstacle for the expansion of plantations, specifically on the foothills of the Andes. The difference in the freezing resistance between clones of E. globulus has a genetic base and, therefore, it could be detected through DNA molecular markers.
